0) Really? Another social networking site? I'll admit I was skeptical at first, too - another social networking site? - but I've been rethinking its purpose, and I like the idea of a place where people can interact with musicians without it being creepy, as an aggregator for KWS news, reviews, and discussion, and as a place where people new to the orchestra (and old hands) can find out about the music, local restaurants, parking and venues, and where it is relaxed and comfortable, and I am given basically free reign to write sassy FAQs. Okay, so I really like being given free reign to write sassy FAQs. 1) Is going to the Symphony really for me? Uh, yes! Going to the Symphony is for everyone. We've got concerts with awesome music that you'll know and awesome music that you'll want to know. We show off the soloists everyone will be talking about in the next few years (you get to hear them first!), and if you're not into Mozart, we feature everything from Frank Sinatra to Dan Deacon. Need more reasons? Check out Classical Convert, this blog I found about classical music for non-classical people and maybe this List of Reasons of why you should listen! 2) Is going to a symphony performance expensive? No, guys. Single tickets start at $20 (all student tickets are $20), subscriptions cut your costs further - a student can get every concert when they buy a $60 m4u pass (if fully taken advantage of, that's like...less than $1/concert), regular folks can get subscriptions starting at $77 for 4 concerts AND SO ON. Plus we have early bird specials and special offers (often $15/ticket), so it just gets better and better. 3) Isn't the symphony for old people? I friggin' love the symphony and I'm 21. Email me. We'll talk. 4) What should I wear? Anything you want, so long's it's clothes. I'm really hoping someone comes in a MorphSuit sometime, those things are sweet. Some people are snobs about casual clothes at the symphony, but I totally wear my jeans and orange sneakers when I go. It's about having fun and being entertained and inspired, not about showing off how badly you walk in high heels! 5) But I don't know much about the music. What a great chance to learn, you know? Plus there's our de-lightful Behind the Music section. 6) I don't know my schedule well enough to book in advance. So show up at the door! So call the day of to book or swap! We will exchange your tickets for $1 if you have to switch (way better than Chicago, they charge $5/ticket. $5! What is that?), and we will do it with a smile, promise. 7) What is the BatCave? That's the KW Symphony Street Team's secret hideout. Shhh. | |||||||||||||||
